Yes! I finally got to brew again. Tuesday night Lisa did not have to
work, awesome, now we got some time I thought. So late Monday night I
set up all the equipment and crushed all the grain after the kids had
gone to bed. Slowly I am getting my "Man Cave" set up. Brewing in
one corner, work bench in another and bar in-between the two. Anyway,
I called home Tuesday as I left work and Lisa started heating up the
water. When I got home it was say hi to the kids and let the mashing
begin. Once we got it going I could play with the kids and work a
little bit more on cleaning up and organizing. I am also starting to
think about the best brew setup ever, and I am getting a lot of
ideas. It wasn't long and the sparge was over. At that point Lisa
took off to do some shopping and left me with my 2 brewing buddies,
Naome and Weston (at least that is want Naome says we are). Everything
went great with both the kids and the beer. Naome, as always, was
egger to help and Weston was doing his part by not being to cranky.
I bet by now you are wondering what beer I brewed. Well I made what I
am calling a Harvest Ale. It is a high octane beer, dark gold in
color, low IBU's (only 20 or so), and lots of hop aroma. I used all
the home grown hops from Mel and the little that I got to brew a beer
that celebrates the hop harvest season. My though is each year I am
going to brew a beer using just the hops that I grow to brew a one of
a kind beer. I though this is a good way to use hops when I don't
really now the alpha numbers. Each year it well change. Maybe as a
club we should think about having some kind of event celebrating
hops. It is good a reason as any to drink and brew together. Kind of
like the harvest party that Burr Oak has.
Anyway I was just so excited that we have a beer going I had to write
about it. For now that is all from the Brewn' Buddies'
